Michael G. Azzam, MD is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with subspecialty board certification in sports medicine by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He performs all aspects of general orthopedics and has extensive experience in the care of athletes. He specializes in the surgical and non-surgical treatment of the shoulder, elbow, knee and ankle. Dr. Azzam has been practicing in the Kansas City area since 2019 and has been named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor.
Dr. Azzam completed a sports medicine fellowship at the world-renowned American Sports Medicine Institute under the direction of Drs. James Andrews, Lyle Cain, Jeff Dugas, and Benton Emblom. He assisted as a team physician for the Alabama Crimson Tide and Samford Bulldogs football teams. He also provided care for the Alabama Ballet, USA Cheer, WWE professional wrestling, the Birmingham Barons (AA-affiliate for the Chicago White Sox), and Birmingham area high school teams.
Dr. Azzam completed his orthopedic surgery residency training at the University of Tennessee-Campbell Clinic, where he served as a team physician for the Memphis Redbirds (AAA-affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals). He attended Saint Louis University School of Medicine, where he was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society and received the MD with Distinction in Research Award. He graduated from Saint Louis University with Summa Cum Laude honors.
As an athlete growing up, Dr. Azzam saw firsthand the impact that orthopedic surgeons have on improving their patients’ quality of life. He has always loved to compete, and sees orthopedics as a means to help patients triumph over injury. Outside of work, Dr. Azzam enjoys spending time with family, exercising, and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs.
